The MAA issues the safety management certificate to national ships in accordance with the International Safety Management Code (ISM Code) and chapter IX of SOLAS which stated that no company is allowed to operate a ship without a valid compliance document to the Code’s requirements and a safety management certificate of the operated ship. This service is provided by MAA branch offices as well as by its competent directorate at the Head Office in Sana’a according to the following conditions and procedures
First: Conditions for the Issue of the Certificate
- The ship must be registered at MAA under the Yemeni flag.
- The ship gross tonnage must be 500 GRT or more.
- The company or ship must bear documents that issued by a recognized classification society or a specialized institute or center that adopted the management system for both the ship and company.
Second: Procedure for the Issue of the Certificate
- Filling the relevant application form prepared for this purpose.
- The application must be submitted along with documents in support of the existence of the Management system required by the ISM Code.
- The application is than addressed by MAA staff.
- If the above conditions were fulfilled than MAA issues a Safety Management Certificate to the subject ship for five-years subject to periodical reviews and inspections.
Third: Fees:
- Fees for reviewing and approving the management system of the company and Issue of SMC certificate: 1500 $
- Fees for reviewing the management system of the ship and issuing the SMC for each ship : 500 $
- Periodical survey fees (annual and Half period) for each ship 100$
Fourth: Deadline for service provision
Within 24 hours of procedures completion.
