(4-2)The Service of Issuing the Tonnage Certificate for a National Ship

The Maritime Affairs Authority issues a tonnage certificate for national ships in accordance with international convention on ship tonnage 1969, requirements through its Head Office in Sana’a as well as through its branches according to the following:

First: Conditions for the Issue of the Certificate  

  1. The ship must be registered at MAA under the Yemeni flag.
  2. The ship tonnage must be 20 GRT or over.

Second: Procedures for the Issue of the Certificate        

  1. Filling the relevant MAA application form prepared for this purpose.
  2. The application form is submitted along with all ship structure diagrams that show all ship spaces.
  3. The application is inspected, verified and compared to the ship register by the MAA staff.
  4. The ship is inspected and its tonnage is measured in accordance with requirements of the international convention on ship tonnage 1969, by MAA surveyor or authorized person after relevant fees are paid.
  5. After the above procedures are completed and fees are paid, the Tonnage certificate is issued and submitted to the owner.

 Notes:         

  1. This certificate is to be issued for the first time when a ship is new.
  2. It is to be issued again if the ship has made any modifications that may lead to changes in the tonnage.
  3. The certificate may be issued by an international classification society that is recognized and authorized by the MAA.

Third: Fees:

  1. Survey and Issuance fees: 1500 $
  2. Periodical survey and validation fees: 500 $

Fourth: Deadline for service provision       

Within 24 hours of procedures completion.
